5 Critical Actions to Improve Data Quality
Repost: Original article by: fearlesscompetitor
For B2B marketers today, data quality is an imperative. Bad data leads to bounces, unsubscribes and possible SPAM violations. But how do you create quality data and keep it clean?
Fortunately, our friends at SiriusDecisions and Netprospex are holding a webinar on Wednesday, March 28th at 11am ET, entitled “Get Serious About Your Marketing Data.” Register here.
Here are the five tips you’ll learn about in this webinar:
- Know your buyer. At Find New Customers, we consider buyer personas the foundation of B2B marketing. Without deep understanding of buyers, you can’t create compelling content, attract buyers or have high win rates. Frankly, that’s why Adele Revella of Buyer Persona was our first (and second) guest on Mad Marketing TV.
- Scrub your database. Research shows at 1 out of 4 records is wrong in a prospect database- resulting in hard bounces and lost opportunities, but best in class companies have only 1 in 10 defective (Source: SiriusDecisions.) The best place to start is by conducting a thorough cleansing process on your marketing database.
- Rinse and repeat. Even the cleanest database degrades over time. Set up policies to clean up the database regularly. For instance, remove hard bounces from the database as they occur, so they don’t pile up over time.
- Start with quality sources. Not all suppliers use a dedicated process to ensure clean data. Use a calculator like How Many Leads Do You Need? to determine what is needed to make your revenue goals for the year.
- Ensure only clean data goes in. For instance, using drop down fields (e.g use President/CEO, VP Sales, VP Marketing, etc.) for titles rather than having people type in their title. This ensures you get consistently clean data.
