Is Email Dead?
Repost: Original article by: reactivmedia
With the rise of social media and online communities, has the day of the email come to an end?
Some companies may think this is the case, but Email Marketing still has a huge place in the modern world of social sharing. This statement is echoed across the web, including popular Blogger and marketer, Chris Brogan who still sees life for email marketing in 2012.
Although the World Wide Web is swimming with emails, it’s still a tool most people, for both business and personal lives, check on a daily basis. In fact, people don’t stop there and now link their accounts to their phones, therefore keeping them hooked to their emails for every hour of every day.
How can such an important tool be dead?
Well don’t worry, it isn’t!
At Reactiv Media we send millions of emails each day with the majority of the campaigns seeing results of over 5% success rate.
The simple fact is emails are still relevant and people of all demographics and industries keep a very close eye on their inbox throughout the day. Although the potential for reach is huge, the actual email itself is the most important thing of all. It’s arguably more important now to create the right message than ever before. With competition for reads so high, you need to create the perfect email and here at Reactiv Media we have some simple tips to do just that.
Be Careful of Graphics
Your email needs to be eye catching, but fill it with too many pictures and it will more than likely never make it to the inbox. Large sized pictures are a SPAM filters best friend, so be warned, put too many pictures in your email and trouble will closely follow.
It’s also important to remember that many people now open their emails on a mobile phone, so will a picture be a good edition to a screen just a few inches wide?
Make your emails attractive, with the right blend of colours and text. If you need a picture by all means use it, but if you don’t then maybe you should reconsider using one at all. If you do choose one though then make sure you format it for the web. Small files are great, and remember to always consider the different formats your readers will use.
Content Is King
The key to any email is to get your message across as simple and precise as possible. This includes a clear call of action, be it a link to a landing page or via a telephone number. Your entire content needs to flow together though and tell a story that keeps the reader interested.
Keeping things as short as possible will increase your chances of the reader staying focussed and following through to the end, but it all needs to create an overall outllook
Keep Things Personalised
Whenever possible you should be personalising your messages to make the reader feel part of a conversation. This doesn’t stop at a simple Dear Mr Smith however, but requires you to create a story for the reader to feel part of.
Everything from your layout to the call of action should make the reader feel at home. As though they’re reading an email from a friend, rather than from a company. Filling your message with links and pictures will create distance, but interesting content will make them feel part of the journey.
Make sure all of your emails have the option for the reader to get in touch and continue the conversation. Whether this is by replying to the email or directing them to a site such as Twitter, the reader should feel part of the conversation at all times. Even when you’re trying to direct them to some kind of sale.
Interact and engage! The potential for further involvement will increase and your email campaigns will flourish because of it.
